We are GOING APPLES this September!

VERY INTENSE past few days for me re-formatting the majority of this post along with our FREEBIE mini packs and our compilation pack! Learned Google Drive along the way, and PRAYERFULLY finally got it going somewhat. WHEW!

BRUTAL for REALS!!! OUCH!!!

So you can imagine, I am hoping you take a 'bite' or two, three or MORE out of my complied list and the accompanying FREEBIE PDF's!

Apple Songs, fingerplays and poems are fun and useful resources for:
Introducing Poetry to Children

Practicing Fine Motor Skills

Following Directions

Introducing Concepts
Choose and write out the following fingerplays & poems on chart paper or sentence strips. When reading, use a pointer for the children to follow along. Using a pointer helps your babes focus on the words while reciting:

My babes DIG using the pointer themselves to point out words they are currently learning to read. Yours will DIG using a pointer as well:

If you do not have a pointer, using your hand under each word works just as well:

My babes also like to frame the words we are learning with our hands

For flanneIboard activities, print your apple FREEBIES on milk filters. You can find my tutorial on how BODACIOUS milk filters are when making your own flannelboard pictorials along with the link to get milk filters for your classroom needs. And while you are there, DIG my other timeless tips and hints to enhance your classroom learning experience:

If you currently do NOT have the time to look through all my Timely Tips from Yesterday and Today now, just scroll down to the flannelboard section to get my milk filter tutorial and link. Then, bookmark the page for later reference.

I have posted MEGA of apple rhyme etc. FREEBIES so be sure to get our ALL of my FREEBIE Apple Rhyme & Picture Mini Pack printables for your classroom Anchor Chart/ Flannelboard/Pocket Chart activities.  Print out the pictorials, then just write out the title and sentences on sentence strips or lined chart paper. L@@k for the labeled Google Drive link beneath each accompanying poem posted.

Need some lined chart paper?

What about Sentence Strips? I like traditional manilla, but I added a link to white as well. I also like to use color strips from time to time to match a particular unit theme color:

What about a paper cutter to cut your freebies with:

I always start our Apple Unit with the following Donald Duck Cartoon "Apple Core". Your babes will enjoy this vintage cartoon as much as mine do:

Apple Fingerplay List

A Little Red Apple
A little red apple
Hung high in a tree.
I looked up at it,
And it looked down at me.
"Come down, please," I called.
And what do you suppose?
That little red apple
Dropped right on my nose!

A little worm into my apple bit,
He chomped and chomped until the core he hit.
And when I asked him why, (Shrug shoulders)
(Although it sounds absurd) (Raise hands in air as if in doubt)
He said "I love apples!" (Rub tummy)
Yes, that is what I heard! (Nodding head in yes motion)

K kept it;
L longed for it;

R ran for it;
S stole it;
T took it;

An Apple For The Teacher
An apple for the teacher,
That seems the thing to do!
Because I want to learn
About romance from you.
An apple for the teacher,
To show I'm meek and mild;
If you insist on saying,
I am just a problem child.
You will get all of my attention,
Your wish will be my rule;
And maybe you'll be good to me,
And keep me after school.
An apple for the teacher,
That is how I'd better start.
Then after while you may give in,
And let me bring my heart.

An apple for the teacher,
Will always do the trick;
When you forgot
Your lesson in arithmetic.
An apple for the teacher,
Will meet with great success;
If you forgot to memorize
The Gettysburg Address!
A little bit of glamour,
A charm that's cute and quaint;
And he will excuse your grammar,
And believe you are what you ain't!
You may be just a lemon,
But he will think you're a peach!
Just bring an apple for the teacher,
When he starts to teach.

Apple Butter
We peeled the apples,
and sliced them small.
cooked them in water,
then mashed them all.

We added some sugar,
and cinnamon to taste.
Put them back in the cook pot,
Till they are thick like paste.

We will spread it on bread,
That you and I will share.
The apple butter we made,
with love and great care.

Apple Faces
Draw the following faces on my apple printables for flannelboard use when reciting this poem.
Here is apple happy,
Here is apple sad.
Here is apple sleepy,
Here is apple mad.
Here is apple in pieces small,
But in a pie, he's best of all!

A Magic Apple Story
The Little Red House with No Doors and No Windows and a Star Inside!
by Caroline Sherwin Bailey
There was once upon a time a little boy who was tired of all his toys and tired of all his play.

"What shall I do?" he asked his mother. And his mother, who always knew beautiful things for little boys to do, said: "You shall go on a journey and find a little red house with no doors and no windows and a star inside."

This really made the little boy wonder. Usually his mother had good ideas, but he thought that this one was very strange. "Which way shall I go?" he asked his mother. "I don't know where to find a little red house with no doors and no windows."

"Go down the lane past the farmer's house and over the hill," said his mother, "and then hurry back as soon as you can and tell me all about your journey."

So the little boy put on his cap and his jacket and started out. He had not gone very far down the lane when he came to a merry little girl dancing along in the sunshine. Her cheeks were like pink blossom petals and she was singing like a robin.

"Do you know where I shall find a little red house with no doors and no windows and a star inside?" asked the little boy.

The little girl laughed. "Ask my father, the farmer," she said. "Perhaps he knows."

So the little boy went on until he came to the great brown barn where the farmer kept barrels of fat potatoes and baskets of yellow squashes and golden pumpkins. The farmer himself stood in the doorway looking out over the green pastures and yellow grain fields.

"Do you know where I shall find a little red house with no doors and no windows and a star inside?" asked the little boy of the farmer.

The farmer laughed too. "I've lived a great many years and I never saw one," he chuckled, "but ask Granny who lives at the foot of the hill...She knows how to make molasses, taffy and popcorn balls...and red mittens! Perhaps she can direct you."

So the little boy went on farther still, until he came to the Granny sitting in her pretty garden of herbs and marigolds. She was as wrinkled as a walnut and as smiling as the sunshine. Please dear Granny, said the little boy, "Where shall I find a little red house with no doors and no windows and a star inside?"

The granny was knitting a red mitten and when she heard the little boy's question, she laughed so cheerily that the wool ball rolled out of her lap and down to the little pebbly path.

"I should like to find that little house myself," she chuckled. It would be warm when the frosty night comes and the starlight would be much prettier than a candle. But ask the wind who blows about so much and listens at all the chimneys. Perhaps the wind can direct you."

So the little boy took off his cap politely to the Granny and went on up the hill rather sorrowfully. He wondered if his mother, who usually knew almost everything, had perhaps made a mistake.

The wind was coming down the hill as the little boy climbed up. As they met, the wind turned about and went along, singing beside the little boy. It whistled in his ear, and pushed him and dropped a pretty leaf into his hands.

"I wonder," thought the little boy, after they had gone along together for awhile, "if the wind could help me find a little red house with no doors, and no windows and a star inside."

The wind cannot speak in our words, but it went singing ahead of the little boy until it came to an orchard. There it climbed up in the apple tree and shook the branches. When the little boy caught up, there, at this feet, lay a great rosy apple.

The little boy picked up the apple. It was as much as his two hands could hold. It was as red as the sun had been able to paint it, and the thick brown stem stood up as straight as a chimney, and it had no doors and no windows. Was there a star inside?

The little boy called to the wind, "Thank you," and the wind whistled back, "You're welcome."

Then the little boy gave the apple to his mother. His mother took a knife and cut the apple through the center. Oh, how wonderful! There inside the apple, lay a star holding brown seeds.

"It is too wonderful to eat without looking at the star, isn't it?" the little boy said to his mother.

"Yes, indeed," answered his mother.
