As one can imagine I have collected many a rhyme over the decades. Here are the School Bus rhymes we like to recite or sing:

Bus Safety
Sing to: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

When you're driving on the bus,
Don't stand up and make a fuss.
Follow every safety rule,
The driver will get you safely to school.
Talk quietly and be polite,
Listen well, and do what' s right.

Hello Mr. School Bus by C.S.Calkins

Hello Mr. School Bus, may I have a ride?
“Oh, yes!” replied Mr. School Bus, “Please step inside!”
“Just have a seat in the first row,
And after you sit, off we will go!”
Around the corner and down the street,
Await other children Mr. School Bus must greet!
The children come aboard one by one,
Mr. School Bus keeps driving until all are on.
Now all the children are off to school,
Where they will learn the Golden Rule!

I Ride the School Bus

I ride the school bus when I’m leaving school,
I’m so very careful to follow each rule.
I sit on my bottom; I stay in my seat,
I use a soft voice; keep still hands and feet.
Quietly riding without any fuss,
This is the way I ride the school bus!

Little Yellow School Bus by Pamela R. Jarrell
Sing to: I've Been Working on the Railroad

I'm a little yellow school bus,
On my way to school.
I carry all the little children,
Yes, that is what I do.
When I see a child is waiting
My lights go flash, flash, flash!
When the drivers see my stop sign,
They all stop just like that.

The School Bus Comes For Me
Sing to: Farmer in the Dell

The school bus comes for me.
The school bus comes for me.
Hey ho, its time to go.
The school bus comes for me.
First we pick up John,
Next we pick up Susie,
Then we pick up ?
Last we pick up ?
Now we are at school.
Now we are at school.
Clap and cheer we're finally here.
Now we are at school.

The Wheels On the Bus Action Song

The wheels on the bus go round and round;
round and round;
round and round.
The wheels on the bus go round and round,
all through the town!
(pump your arms up and down like a train wheel)

The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep;
beep, beep beep;
beep, beep, beep.
The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep;
all through the town!
(pretend to beep horn)

The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish;
swish, swish, swish;
swish, swish, swish.
The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish,
all through the town!
(move your forearm back and forth like a windshield wiper)

The people on the bus go up and down;
up and down;
up and down.
The people on the bus go up and down,
all through the town!
(bob up and down)

The babies on the bus go waa, waa, waa;
waa, waa, waa;
waa, waa, waa.
The babies on the bus go waa, waa, waa,
all through the town!
(pretend to put your fists in your eyes like a crying baby)

The parents on the bus go shh, shh, shh;
shh, shh, shh;
shh, shh, shh.
The parents on the bus go shh, shh, shh,
all through the town!
(put your index finger over your lips)

The signals on the bus go blink, blink, blink;
blink, blink, blink;
blink, blink, blink.
The signals on the bus go blink, blink, blink,
all through the town!
(flick your fingers on both hands like you’re flicking water off them)

The motor on the bus goes zoom, zoom, zoom;
zoom, zoom, zoom;
zoom, zoom, zoom.
The motor on the bus goes zoom, zoom, zoom,
all through the town!
(pretend to be driving the bus)

Wheels on the Bus Safety Song

The children on the bus go up and down,
Up and down, up and down.
The children on the bus go up and down,
All the way to school.

Other verses:
The children on the bus should sit down in their seats …
The children on the bus should talk quietly …
The children on the bus keep their hands to themselves …
The children on the bus listen to their driver …

There are other versions you can do with this tune such as sight words or letters. Just follow the pattern below and insert your activity words:

The word (letter) on the bus says ____ (the) (b), ____(the) (b), ____(the) (b).
______(the) (b), _______(the) (b), _______(the) (b),
______(the) (b), _______(the) (b), _______(the) (b)
The word on the bus says ____ (the) (b), ____(the) (b), ____(the) (b)
All through the town.

Zip-a-dee-do-dah First day of School adapted by C.S. Calkins

Zip-a-dee-do-dah,
Zip-a-dee-ay.
We’re excited cuz its our first day!
We’re gonna learn and we’re gonna play!
Zip-a-dee-do-dah,
Zip-a-dee-ay.

It is time for us to go now,
We’re gonna ride the school bus;
Our new teacher’s waiting for us!
Zip-a-dee-do-dah,
Zip-a-dee-ay.
Wonderful feeling, on our first day!

For older children, I like to get their brains working by reciting this School Bus riddle. See who can quickly guess the answer:

In bright yellow coats
All in a row,
We sleep through the summer
With no place to go.
In September we wake up,
Guzzle our fuel,
And stop at the corner
To take you to school!
WHAT ARE WE???
