Our Lords Christmas Candle 1

Candles today are considered dangerous but reality is candles have been a staple of life in one form or another since the fall of man. Indeed, candles not only bring light but are a mentioned in the Bible in various forms.

David describes  a burning candle in Psalm 119:105, "Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path," as symbolic of the belief that biblical scripture provides wisdom, direction, faith, and eternal life to those that believe in and follow its commands.

Candles symbolize God's resurrected presence that shines the light of Christ's glory in our lives.

The candle flame represents both the Holy Spirit and light.

Tabernacle services were held in the first temple by lamp ( a type of candle) light. Lamp lighting is also mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles. (Acts 20:8) "And there were many lights in the upper chamber." In this instance they were to see with. They allowed for the reading of the word, also to administer the ordinance of the supper. They provided for the comfort and pleasure of the whole company, both preacher and hearers; as well as to remove all ground of suspicion, or occasion of reproach.

The Menorah, a seven branched candle stick designed like an almond branch was on the south wall in the Holy Place of the Tabernacle. The western branch never went out and was used as the eternal flame. The four in the center were lit at night. The two on the eastern side were lit in the day and relit at night. In the actual sanctuary there were seven Menorahs.

Candles are lit as a sign of hope and faith in God, as well as a symbol of a burning love for God . Burning candles are a reminder of the Light of Heaven. Lit candles remind us that Jesus is the light of the world... the light we should follow. At a time of God's own choosing, He came, to shine a light in a spiritually dark world.

Candles are a symbolic reminder of Christ's Passion, which is the Cross and what was accomplished there, the redemption of mankind unto Himself.

The Hebrew word denotes properly any kind of candle, lamp or torch. The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.  (Prov. 20:27), Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. (Matt. 5:14), an image of prosperity as in Job 21:17 - How often is the lamp of the wicked put out! and how often comes their destruction upon them! God distributes sorrows in His anger, and in Prov. 13:9 - The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

Now this here next video is a trip! Kurt Russell narrated this years Disneyland Candlelight Processional and I must say I am ASTONISHED and STOKED!! First of all, I am trippin' that Disneyland would host a tribute to our Lord & Savior's birth...WHOAH!!! Then to top it off, Kurt, who is married to Goldie Hawn a PROFESSED Buddist, narrates the story of Christ's birth from the Bible, but hey, I am bawlin' all over the place as regardless of the bearer (trip that God used a donkey more than once), people get saved via the Word of the Lord!!!  And now all I can say is "ALL Praise and ALL glory be to our LORD, WHOAH!!!"

Dig these Candle Fingerplays and Songs:

Five Little Candles

Five little candles twinkling on the tree.
The first one said, "What do you see?"
The second one said, "I see Santa big and jolly."
The third one said, "I see Christmas wreathes or holly."
The fourth one said, "What do you hear?"
The fifth one said, "Children singing loud and clear,"
A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."

Another Version:

revised by C.S. Calkins

5 little candles sitting in a row.
The first candle said, “I’m starting to glow!”
The second candle said, “Let’s chase away the dark.”
The third candle said, “Look at my spark.”
The fourth candle said, “Christmas is so much fun!”
The fifth candle said, “I am bright as the sun.”
Poof! went the match, bright were the sparks,
As the five little candles glowed in the dark.

Five Little Lamps

5 little lamps sitting in a row
The first one said, "I'm starting to glow."
The second one said, "Let's chase away the dark."
The third one said, "I'm happy as a lark!"
The fourth one said, "Christmas is so much fun."
The fifth one said, "I'm bright as the sun!"
Bang, went the firecrackers, down went the sparks
and the 5 little lamps glowed in the dark.

Little Nancy Etticoat,
In a white petticoat,
And a red nose;
The longer she stands,
The shorter she grows.

Candlelight

Sing to: Silver Bells

Candlelight, candle bright,
You bring the warmth of the season.
Glowing bright, candlelight,
You light the night with your peace.

Here is a Little Candle

Sing to: I Am a Little Teapot

Here is a little candle dressed in white,
Wearing a hat of yellow light.
When the night is dark, then you will see
Just how bright this light can be.
Here's a little candle straight and tall,
Shining it's light upon us all.
When the night is dark, then you will see
Just how bright this light can be.
Here's a little candle burning bright.
Keeping us safe all through the night.
When the night is dark, then you will see
Just how bright this light can be!
