Fire Safety Fingerplays, Rhymes, Poems and Songs List & FREEBIE!

Welcome to our Firefighter Fingerplays, Rhymes, Poems and Songs page! We hope you enjoy the Fire Safety list I have compiled over the decades and implement some of these rhymes in your classroom today! If you know anymore fire safety rhymes, post them in the comments below!

Fingerplays and songs are a fun way of introducing poetry to children. They are also useful tools for practicing fine motor skills, following directions and introducing concepts.

Here are some of our FAV Fire Fighter Safety Fingerplays, Songs and Poems we have done in class over the years:

Always Alert

I am a smoke detector and I say "Beep" (squat)
I am your nose when you're asleep. (point to your nose; then pretend to sleep)
If there is a fire and smoke is all around, (Wiggle hand and fingers all around.)
I'll wake you up with a very loud sound. (Jump up and raise your hands high.)
BEE-EE-EE-EEP! (Everyone beeping.)

Big Red Fire Truck

Sing to: Twinkle, twinkle, Little Star

Big red fire truck, ladder on the top,
Going to a fire where it will stop.
Long curving hose carried about,
Splashing water from its spout.
The fire and smoke are going away,
Now it's time to shout HURRAY!

Brave Firefighter

Sing to: Frere Jacques

Firefighter, firefighter
You are brave, you are brave
Putting out the fires, putting out the fires
Lives you save, lives you save.

Another Version:

Sing to: 3 Blind Mice

Brave firefighters, brave firefighters,

See how they run, to put out the fire.
They leave the fire house when they get the call.
Putting out the fire won't take long at all.
They'll try to save any house, big or small,
The brave firefighters.

Fire Can Be Helpful

Fire can be helpful,
When handled with care.
But fire and children,
Do not make a pair!
So do NOT play with matches,
Or anything hot.
Adults may use fire,
But children should not!

~Pauline C. Peck

Down at the Firehouse

Sing to: Down by the Station

Down at the firehouse early in the morning,
You can see our clothes all hanging in a row.
When there is a fire,
We can dress real fast.
Boots, jackets, hats, gloves,
Off we go!

Drive The Fire Truck

Sing to: Row, Row, Row the Boat
Adapted by: C.S. Calkins
Drive, drive, drive the fire truck, (Pretend to drive truck)
Drive the fire truck.
Drive, drive, drive the truck.
On a Sunday Morning.

Turn, turn, turn the corner.
Turn the corner.
Turn, turn, turn the corner,
On a Sunday morning.

Look, look for the fire,
Looking for the fire.
All are looking for the fire,
On a Sunday morning.

Climb, climb, climb the ladder,
Climb the ladder high.
Climbing high upon the ladder.
On a Sunday morning.
Back, back, back to the station.

Spray, spray spray, the water,
Aim it on the fire.
Spray it ‘til it dies away,
On a Sunday morning.

Back, back, to the station, Spray, spray spray, the water,
Driving back now,
The fire is out, the work is done,
On a Sunday morning.

Fire Can be Helpful
by Pauline C. Peck

Fire can be helpful
When handled with care.
But fire and children
Do not make a pair!
So don't play with matches
Or anything hot.
Adults may use fire,
But children should not!

Out the fire goes! (Clap hands together)

Fire Fighter Hear the Alarm

Have the children lie on the floor pretending to sleep.  When you say “Wake up”, have the children jump up.
Fire Fighter, Fire Fighter,
Hear the alarm.
Save the building,
From any harm.
Fire fighter, Firefighter,
No time to rest!
Wake up, Wake up;
Do your Best!

Fire Safety

Sing to: Three Blind Mice

Adapted by: C.S. Calkins

9-1-1,
9-1-1.
You will hear them say,
Help is on the way.
If you need help you know what to do,
Call the police and the firehouse too.
Just dial 9-1-1 that's what to do,
9-1-1.

Another Version in Poem form:

Fire Safety

Fire can be useful,
To cook our food with heat;
To keep our houses warm and give us
Something hot to eat.
But fire can be harmful,
It can be a deadly foe.
So fire safety rules are something,
Everyone should know.

Fire Safety Sam

Sing to: Popeye the Sailor Man

Hold up any type of fire dog craft when singing.

I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)
I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)

Please test smoke detectors,
‘Cause they’re home protectors.

I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)

I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)
I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)

It’s important to say,
With matches, don’t play.

I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)

I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)
I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)

If there’s smoke you should know,
you’d better crawl low.

I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)

I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)
I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)

Have a fire escape plan,
Every family can.

I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)

I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)
I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)

If there’s a fire, get out,
Use your escape route.

I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)

I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)
I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)

Go to a neighbor’s when alone,
Then call 9-1-1 on the phone.

I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)

I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)
I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)

If your clothes on fire, here is your goal,
First stop, then drop, and roll!

Cuz I’m Fire Safety Sam. (ruff, ruff)

One goes out to answer a call.
With siring sounds and lights on bright,

With sirens quiet and all made right,
Five great big fire trucks say good night.
